I am a staunch believer that leaders do not create followers, they create other leaders and Union Representative Tiffany Roman is living proof that building an inclusive table within the NVAC is imperative for us to maximize our highest potential.  In 2020, Tiffany’s local (2430) merged with AFGE Local 1117 who at the time represented Wage Grade (WG), Title 5, Title 38 Hybrid, and Title 38 employees with a majority of the staff being classified as Title 38 (Nurses, Social Workers, Physicians, Medical Providers, Pharmacists).  Prior to the merger, AFGE Local 1117 only had experience with representing Title 5 employees, and Title 38 representation posed an incredible challenge for the leadership and representatives of Local 1117.

 

At the time of the merger, Tiffany was already assisting her peers with labor relation concerns but unfortunately her Union did not create space at the table for her to learn and contribute.  Officially  joining forces with AFGE Local 1117 was the natural progression of her union involvement and advocacy.  In just over a year, Tiffany Roman has made great strides in restoring the rights of her peers that were bargained away by prior union leadership. As the future NVAC President, I promise to do the same for you that was done for Tiffany.  I will build a table where everyone who would like to contribute is welcomed.  It doesn’t take a few voices, it takes all voices to be the change we wish to see.  There are plenty of talented, gifted and selfless title 38 representatives within the council who have brilliant ideas on how to help their peers but leadership will not  amplify their voices.  My goal is to give those brilliant minds their own microphone to ensure their  ideas never go unheard again.  To follow through on this promise I’ve worked with our title 38 representatives to establish the below vision:
